Time - Primary 1

 In the primary one chapter on time, we'll learn to tell time:

• to the hour
• to the half hour

In an analogue clock, the long hand points to the minute, and the short hand points to the hour. The hand that is constantly moving points to the second. For primary one Math, we are focusing only on the hour and minute hands of the analogue clock.

Telling time to the hour

When we are telling time to the hour, the long hand points to 12, and what ever number the short hand points to tells us the hour.

In the clock below, the long hand points to 12, and the short hand points to 3. Hence, it is 3 o' clock. We can also say that the time is 3:00 (followed by a.m. if it is morning or p.m. if it is afternoon).

Telling time to the half hour

When the time is half past _____,  the long hand is pointing to 6. If it is half past 4, the short hand will be pointing in between 4 and 5.
