Picture graphs - Primary 1

In primary 1, students learn how to interpret data from picture graphs. In primary one, each unit of a picture graph (usually) represent 1. However, students are taught to read the legend in the picture graphs, to check what each picture refer to.

In addition to interpretation of data from picture graphs, students also answer one-step word problems involving picture graphs (e.g. difference, total, etc.).

An example of a picture graph can be found below. This graph shows the number of students who like each sport.

Students should be able to answer questions such as:

  • the sport that the most number of students like
  • the sport that least number of students like
  • how many more students like badminton than soccer, and so on.
