Numbers to 10,000 - Primary 3

By now, you'll notice the first topic learnt each year is always numbers to ________. Each year, students learn to count numbers with an additional place value. It stopped at thousands in primary 2, and in primary 3, they learn to count to 10,000.

Since 10,000 is simply ten 1000s, counting in thousands will go to 10,000. So students should be able to count in 1000s to reach 10,000. In addition, going from thousands to ten thousands mean we have an additional digit in the number. Thus, we'll learn a new place value --- the ten thousand place value.

In this post, let's go through in detail what's covered in the Singapore Math Primary 3 Topic on numbers to 10,000.

In this primary three topic on numbers to 10,000 students learn to:

  • Count in hundreds and thousands
  • Place values (ones place, tens place, hundreds place, thousands place)
  • Reading and writing numbers in numerals and words
  • Comparing and ordering numbers (arranging numbers from smallest to greatest and vice versa, determining which number is larger and how much larger, etc.)
  • Patterns in number sequences
